A Day for Lovers

Tomorrow is one of the biggest holidays in America for those in relationships, or even those wishing to be in a relationship…

Valentine’s Day

The holiday is known for Chocolates, Wine, Candy, Gifts and anything else you can think of getting or doing to show somebody that you care about them.  And since this month is all about I HEART Starbucks, I decided to look at all the options you have through Starbucks (and their other companies like Tazo Tea and Evolution Fresh) to find an item that is good for your heart in more ways than one… Chocolate!

There has been lots of research done on the benefits of Chocolate and even in relation to your HEART’s health, so I chose to go with an article on this topic from the Cleveland Clinic.  As this article states… it is the processing of the Chocolate that takes the healthy benefits out of it for us.  Benefits like antioxidants, flavonoids and even cocoa butter are what you would be looking for but since it is very hard to know just how much of those things exist in each different Chocolate bar because of their processing methods this article suggests “enjoy moderate portions of chocolate (e.g., 1 ounce) a few times per week, and don’t forget to eat other flavonoid-rich foods like apples, red wine, tea, onions and cranberries.”

So what kinds of Chocolates can you enjoy from your local Starbucks store?  I’ll take you on a small tour of the different items I found in Starbucks, Evolution Fresh and Tazo Tea.

First of all I had a friend give me this coupon for 50% off many of the Starbucks chocolate items, so I decided to get them all!  The Cheesecake Brownie, the Chocolate chunk cookie and the Double Chocolate brownie.

My next stop was Evolution Fresh because since I started this challenge I had been told about their Chocolate Coconut Mousse, so I had to add that as well as one of their Belgium chocolate granola bars.  I decided to add them to the Starbucks items to make up my first chocolate platter…

Then today, when my oldest and I were visiting University Village I stopped by the Tazo Tea store to see what varieties of chocolates they had and WOW!  Tazo Tea IS the place to buy your Valentine’s Day chocolates for sure!  In fact, anytime during the year that you are craving a higher-end chocolate with amazing combinations of infused tea and everything from lemon zest to sunflower seeds… Tazo Tea has to be your stop!

Just look at their beautiful packaging for their little chocolate samplers…

Tazo chocolatesThat package alone is worthy of any experienced chocolate lover, foodie fan or deeply involved culinary connoisseur!

Of course I had to make a Tazo Tea chocolate platter because I ended up walking out of the store with so many varieties!  First of all they have their chocolate “nibs” in cute little 4 oz boxes with flavors such as: Caramel Brulee, Berry Medley, Salted Almond & Creamy Peanut Pretzel.  Then, as if those choices were not enough of sweet goodness, I picked up that gift box full of the tea-infused varieties such as: Raspberry Hibiscus, Earl Grey Lavender, Lapsang Souchong & a couple of different Lemon Ginger varieties.

After all the chocolates were out, it was an early Valentines Day for us!  Which ones were the winners??  Well, the Evolution Fresh Chocolate Coconut Mousse was definitely on top and then the varieties of the Tazo Tea chocolates came in as winners like the Creamy Peanut Pretzels, Caramel Brulee and the Earl Grey Chocolate.  Funny thing, the Starbucks chocolate items were lowest on the list for any of us… I must be raising a bunch of foodies in this house?!

So there you go… no matter where you choose to go Starbucks has you covered for your Valentines Day chocolate treats!  But I will say again, if you have the chance… try out the Tazo Tea chocolates, they are simply amazing and my personal pick for this “Day Of Lovers“.

The Tazo tea-infused chocolates look awesome. Wish we had those here.

How was the cream cheese brownie? I’ve been wanting to try it, but rarely buy the pastries at Starbucks. (They’re usually more meh than amazing).
