Weekend Warriors

This weekend was our fabulous Seahawks playoff WIN!  And the boys and I sported #12thMan PRIDE with an entire weekend of warrior-type sports.

First was our Winter Warrior hike up in the Cedar River Watershed with our guide, Pierre and group.  I’ve always wanted to visit the Watershed, and this weekend we found a perfect, sunny Washington day to do it!  First we traveled to the Education Center where we met our guide and the rest of our group; and yes, we were sporting our blue and green Seahawks pride the entire trip…

Our tour was fantastic!  Our guide was accommodating to all age levels, we seen so much of our natural Washington state environment and learned a lot about how much the watershed effects a good percent (over 22% of WA citizens live in its realm) of our state.  Check out the Friends of Cedar River website (or a Seattle.gov site) today and sign up for a number of FREE hikes and events today.

What a perfect day it was in so many ways!  The last leg of the trip was interesting… but mommy will save that knowledge for her tell-all challenge year book.

Our second adventure this Warrior Weekend was going snowshoeing with the family up in Gold Creek Basin area on MLK day (Monday, January 20th) since it’s a national holiday it was also FREE to use the trails!  We started out getting our snowshoes at the Issaquah REI on Saturday because it was such a nice weekend everybody was going to want snowshoes!

Then we headed up I-90 to Snoqualmie Pass and to Gold Creek Basin, which was super popular that day and we wandered past many families, friends and couples (even dogs) snowshoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing the basin.  We didn’t get to far, only a little less than 3 miles that afternoon which was still really great considering it was my toddlers first time snowshoeing.  He stepped into the snowshoes and was off and running immediately!  I’m sure I have a natural-born athlete in my youngest…

After a long weekend of multiple activities and adventures my boys and I headed back home to enjoy the rest and relaxation of the 3-day MLK holiday weekend.  I hope everybody enjoyed the wonderful time to reflect, serve, adventure or just enjoy your favorite things that our freedoms allow us.  This week is definitely more training (always) possibly some Frisbee-golf and then the big rock-climbing wall at the Seattle REI flagship store with a friend…. YAHOOOOO.  This GoPro video should be FUN!

*UPDATE*  The Mountaineers just emailed over a link from the Washington Trails Association of a list they put together of all the Fee-FREE days for 2014.  Sign up for The Mountaineers newsletters and email announcements for more great information about outdoor activities and ongoing stewardship!
