This week we had the pleasure of attending what is becoming a well-known outdoor event, the Timber Music Festival.
I had seen classes at the Seattle REI store for months related to this festival and knew REI would be there, so we decided to get our new REI tent out, played a bit of #GearTetris with the SUV and packed up the family for a weekend of FUN!
To prepare, I looked for camping recipes on Pinterest like Campfire Cooking and ended up trying out the Campfire Cones and the Stuffed French Bread (both turned out AMAZING!) which for this novice campfire cook was a reassuring sign that recreation has indeed found this foodie’s heart! As well as the camp kitchen area, REI had free SUP and kayaking clinics which we signed up for immediately. Since I had just finished a full REI SUP class and loved the experience, I went with the SUP class again down the Tolt river.
After an afternoon of SUPing, concerts at the big red barn and the REI camp kitchen dinner we decided to take a hike over to the main stage area and see a couple of shows. Once there we checked out the #REIVillage portable trailer that you might see at an outdoor festival near you soon!
The REI Village had a free sunglass making station, free print-outs of your Instagramed photos (all under #REIVillage, check em out!), outdoor games and seating areas and one of my favorites after a long, vigorous day… hammocks! We grabbed a nearby ice cream cone and hung out in the hammocks watching the Seattle Rock Orchestra for the evening. It. Was. AWESOME!
This stage was unlike any other concert I’ve ever been too, just imagine…. music being played in the depths of night, under dimly-lit white and red christmas-light strands, all housed under the blinking stars that peeped through the forest opening… to say this venue was unbelievably magical is an understatement! To think about that musical experience again still gives me goose bumps!
If you haven’t heard about the Timber Music Fest, or @TimberFest you really should check it out. The scenery surrounding the Tolt McDonald Park, bouncing up and down on @ThatSkakyBridge, witnessing music in nature that will leave a memory in your mind for years, and of course REI‘s new outdoor festival recreation camps with the free SUP and Kayaking clinics, camp kitchens and #REIVillage to hang with your friends… Seriously, I’m already hoping that some of my 2015 SubPop challenge friends will be playing @TimberFest so I can book my reservations as soon as possible for this soon-to-be Internationally-renown festival!
